News today that the file sharing site OiNK has been closed down in dawn raids by the Police. As always, out to spoil everyone’s fun, the British Police have shut down OiNK which it is believed has around 180,000 users. Based on a secretive invite-only policy, OiNK has grown to be one of the most well-known file-sharing sites among internet insiders. The crackdown by the Police has been centered on two operations one in Middlesbrough (the hub of digital culture obviously) and Amsterdam.
This does raise an interesting question however in that I wonder if this is going to be something which is becoming more and more frequent. Another thing to think about here is why the Police picked this particular site when there are so many to choose from. As it states in the article in the Guardian, OiNK is one of thousands, so what made the Police pick this one out?
