Android – the open handset alliance – Google

Sounds almost galactic, but the Open Handset Alliance (battling against the Death Star iPhone Alliance) including Google is launching the “first truly open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices”. This sounds very exciting and indeed it is as Google have now formed the alliance with luminaries such as T-Mobile, Motorola etc.

The Android phone as its going to be called is simply not as ambitious as the open platform that Google are trying to create. Calling it just a phone does not really do it justice as it opens up many more boundaries. It is a platform which developers can build apps on and more.

So in a short breath…Google have now positioned themselves as central to social networking through OpenSocial and central to mobile through the Open Alliance.  Fantastic.
