StumbleUpon often throws up some very interesting sites and articles. One in particular which I stumbled upon this morning was the idea of Transhuman Intelligence. (Link here)
The article dictates that any problems cannot be solved by the people that created the problems. These problems can only really be solved by progressions in science and technology. This got me thinking, can the convergence of mobile technology, augmented reality and social media create something I am terming “Transsocial Intelligence”.
The definition fo Transsocial Intelligence is the ability of converging networks of mobile, AR and social, to deliver a better connected, higher intelligence, more deeply committed social population. Or will the convergence create a lazy, non-socially committed, intelligence focused population.
If recent studies are anything to go by, the rise of this convergence has certainly led to a higher connectedness with the outside world. In one recent study, Transsocial Intelligence is apparent within the “confines” of the US as people within the study have said that the usage of social networks has helped them to connect better to the world and with more diverse people than they would have done before.
Perhaps as we become further and further connected, we will use broad social networks to connect in a more valuable way to the outside world, to expand our knowledge base i.e. to cultures and races we don’t necessarily always connect to in our non-virtual lives. We will then use exclusive, social networks to connect to the people who we consider to be closet to us, about topics that are central to our beliefs.
Does this therefore mean this social intelligence (potentially group intelligence) can help to solve world issues? technological issues? social problems?
