Today sees the launch of what I believe will be a Spotify killer.. well perhaps a destroyer anyway. Sky Songs, has been launched to much acclaim with hugely positive reviews in the UK press. I personally have tried it out and find it a much more intuitive system than Spotify, but there are many reasons why I believe it will kick its arse.
1) Sky Songs is website based. That means no downloading of a desktop client and yes that means you can also access it anywhere. Its the global party platform.
2) Subscription model. Spotify have been trying to push their subscription model, in fact recently they seemed to have turned off the free model. However, the only real reason to subscribe to Spotify seems to be the use of their mobile app. Still, is that worth £8.99 per month? Sky Songs overcome this model with the “buy an album or ten tracks (ten credits effectively) for £6.49 and get access for the whole month.” This gives you access to 4m tracks. I believe Spotify is 1m on free and a claimed 6m on subscribed.
3) Interface. The Sky Songs interface just looks great and it is easy to play around with the tracks, albums. It does really look so good. See screenshot below.

4) Features. At the foot of the homepage there is an area called Features. Within this area you can read content published by HolyMoly. This area is still being developed, but will provide an interesting area for what I hope Sky will build into micro-communities.
All in all its a pretty powerful proposition from Sky, certainly one that you can all try as it has a one month contract if you want it. Enjoy.
