An open question I guess, but one which is pretty relevant given this week’s conversations and Google’s caving in to 5 pieces of content. My thought was.. what actually happens to other properties providing news content.
Within the UK’s Murdoch’s highest rating channel is Sky Sports. However, I think this site is a strong point for Sky converting people to Sky packages. Therefore, there is value in keeping this channel open to drive Sky subscriptions. Clearly, this isn’t the case with The Times, where the only revenue it generates for Murdoch is through paid subscriptions.
What’s next? £5 per profile on MySpace?
Incidentally, in the week that Murdoch cut off open usage of The Times and WSJ. His MySpace UK site has launched free music streaming through MySpace Music.
Strange world that he lives in isn’t it?
