Term of the Week: Donut Marketing

No, this isn’t about how to get people to eat more DONUGHTS (not Donuts people). This is about how clients websites use APIs to feed in content from multiple social media sources. The main reason for doing this is of course that the API is free and that the social media sites such as YouTube foot the cost for the server/hosting space.

The second reason for doing this is simply because it helps the client website’s SEO performance by creating more content heavy sites and thus encouraging more links into the client site. The process is relatively simple to do but the key point is to identify the right amout of content to draw in and to have people who technically know how to use these APIs properly. (I have also always found the help from people like YouTube massively useful and would advice engaging them as early as possible)

So this is what the donught/donut looks like….

  • In addition to creating more link-able content, another SEO benefit is that the site will have constantly updated content. Fresh content is a great indicator for Google bots and will encourage more frequent crawling. Additionally, clients who have very static sites, or who have a tech team in charge of their web presence that makes it difficult for them to make updates, can use these feeds to add new keyword rich content into their pages without needing to update the site itself.

Nice site ideas - hadn't thought of using iTunes or PR Newswire as alternative content sources.
