Virtusphere: 3D Experience

May 10th, 2010 View Comments

Virtusphere is a few years old now, but I picked it up on StumbleUpon. Its a fascinating technology and could be really interesting for both gaming and AR experience. What caught my eye on their website was that the technology could be deployed across any 3D technology available. Although they have only referenced Shine, Quake4 etc, there could be some exciting uses for city exploration. Potentially interesting uses could be combined with an AR technology like Layar (Link Here), so you can scroll through recommended walking routes and then see the restaurants, cafes etc. A real-life Lonely Planet guide if you like…

  • The graphics really make it clear that this is an old video but it's pretty amazing none the less - and it begs the question, why don't we see more VR games and features today? 3D video still feels like a bit of a gimick to me while having 3D, AR and VR games actually feels like progress in that industry.

There are some very cool products (i.e. PlayStation Move) that seem to be moving in this direction which is great news - I would much rather see a fully immersive environment I can control (games) than one I can't (films).
